The Hungry Dog

Amber irises stare me down, I can feel their presence trying to relay a message to me, “get up and feed me.” Instead, I redirect my focus back to reading. The eyes shift back and forth, before turning downcast and resting. At the sound of a squirrel fart, the eyes are open, up, and racing towards an unknown destination in search of something once heard. Low barks find their way out in the open air as the irises find me again and slowly stalk me as I sit under the sun to repeat this game we are playing.
